Khartoum – Sudan Now | March 12, 2026
The Sudan Doctors Network announced that the death toll from a drone attack targeting the village of Shakiri in White Nile State has risen to 17 people, including students, women, and educational and health staff. Another 17 people were injured with varying degrees of wounds, some of them in critical condition.
The network said the attack was carried out by a drone operated by the RSF, targeting a secondary school in the village and the area’s only health center. It added that the area has no military presence, and the strike resulted in civilian casualties, including students, teachers, and medical staff.
According to the statement, the dead included six male and female students, two teachers, and a health sector worker, while the injured included four children and five women, some of whom were transferred to medical facilities for treatment.
The network said the airstrike sparked panic among residents of the village, amid fears of a potential wave of displacement after civilian facilities providing educational and health services to the community were targeted.
It added that targeting civilian facilities housing students and medical personnel with drones constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on educational and health facilities and those working in them.
The Sudan Doctors Network noted that the attack comes amid an escalation in strikes on civilian facilities in White Nile State in recent days, with previous attacks hitting student dormitories, a power station, and several residential neighborhoods.
The network held the leadership of the RSF responsible for the attack, calling on the international community and UN and human rights organizations to take urgent action to condemn the incident and implement measures to protect civilians and educational and health facilities.
