At least 35 people, most of them women and children, were killed or injured in a drone attack that struck residential neighborhoods in the city of Dilling, South Kordofan State, according to the city’s Popular Resistance committees.
Local sources said that drones launched by the RSF militia and the SPLM-N (al-Hilu faction) carried out an attack on Thursday, January 15, targeting civilian gatherings inside the city, resulting in casualties among unarmed civilians.
Local sources added that the Sudanese Armed Forces managed to intercept and shoot down a number of the drones. however, some managed to reach populated areas, killing five people including three children and causing additional casualties among both civilians and military personnel.
According to preliminary figures, 30 people were injured, including five children and more than ten women. Their injuries ranged from critical to moderate and minor, affecting the head, chest, abdomen, limbs, and neck. Sources confirmed that the wounded received first aid and that the condition of most of them was described as stable.
Among the injured was Sheikh Khalil, a preacher and imam at the Ansar al-Sunnah al-Muhammadiyah Mosque in Dilling.
The Popular Resistance called on residents to avoid gatherings except when absolutely necessary and urged citizens to stay away from sites of explosions and targeted areas amid ongoing security threats.
