Khartoum – Sudan Now | January 29, 2026
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has expressed its condemnation of all forms of violations committed by the RSF in Sudan, reaffirming its full support for the country’s unity, sovereignty, and its existing national institutions.
This came in a statement issued by IGAD following consultations held by the organization’s Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu, with Sudanese Prime Minister Kamel El-Tayeb Idris at the organization’s headquarters in the Djiboutian capital, Djibouti. The talks addressed developments in the security situation and the course of the peace process in Sudan.
The statement affirmed IGAD’s support for the Sudanese national initiative aimed at achieving peace and stability, and also called on Sudan to return to the organization, reiterating its readiness to welcome the country back within its institutional framework.
Sudan had previously suspended its engagement with IGAD during earlier phases of the conflict, amid disagreements over the organization’s role in the Sudanese file. Today’s statement comes as part of broader regional efforts to reintegrate Sudan into regional frameworks, while underscoring support for national institutions and condemning violations against civilians.
