Prime Minister Kamel Idris stated that Sudan successfully presented a purely national peace initiative before the UN Security Council, emphasizing that it reflects the nation’s independence and reinforces the authority of the Sudanese state.
He explained at a press conference held at Port Sudan Airport upon his return from New York that the initiative demonstrated to the world that Sudan calls for peace, not war, and the current conflict has been thrust upon the Sudanese people.
Kamel revealed that Sudan received widespread positive feedback during the UN Security Council session from various countries and international figures, all of whom expressed support for the sovereignty and authority of the Sudanese state. They clearly affirmed that “there is no parallel government” in the country, effectively blocking any attempts to undermine national legitimacy.
The Prime Minister praised the pivotal role of the African group within the Security Council, lauding its unwavering support for Sudan and active participation in promoting the national initiative. He described his meetings with the UN Secretary-General, the Security Council president, and several country representatives as productive and supportive.
He noted that the discussions highlighted the scale of unprecedented crimes and atrocities committed by militias against civilians, clarified the violations classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity, and mobilized international support for Sudan’s vision to achieve stability.
In closing, Kamel Idris described the international response to the initiative as recognition of a vision rooted in “courage and wisdom,” stressing that the next priority is to take steps toward a fair and comprehensive peace that serves the Sudanese people and ends their suffering.
