The Sudan Doctors Network team in the Darfur region revealed that more than 3,000 cases of measles have been recorded in South and West Darfur over the past three months, raising alarms over a serious deterioration in the health situation and the rapid spread of epidemics across the region.
It stressed that the disruption in vaccine deliveries, due to restrictions and complications imposed by the RSF in Darfur, constitutes a major obstacle preventing the transport of vaccines, medicines, and medical supplies to various areas. This has led to the suspension of routine and emergency immunization campaigns, directly contributing to rising infection rates, particularly among children.
The Sudan Doctors Network held the RSF leadership fully responsible for endangering the lives of civilians, particularly children, and called for the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors and the guarantee of safe and unconditional access for medical personnel and humanitarian teams.
The network also urged the international community and UN and humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently and intensify efforts to curb the spread of the outbreak, provide vaccines, and deliver the necessary medical support to protect civilians.
It underscored that the right to health is a fundamental human right and must not, under any circumstances, be used as a tool of siege or coercion.
