Sudanese Prime Minister Kamel Idris said that his visits to Geneva and his participation in the Munich Security Conference resulted in international support for health and human rights issues, as well as the peace initiative in Sudan.
Idris explained, during a press conference at Khartoum Airport following his return from Munich, that his visit to Geneva included meetings with the International Organization for Migration, the World Council of Churches, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The meeting addressed human rights issues, violations, and the peace file, adding that these bodies showed understanding of the demands presented.
He added that his meetings also included the World Health Organization, which, according to him, agreed to provide support to the health sector, particularly in malaria control, contributing to limiting the spread of epidemics.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the World Council of Churches announced its support for the peace initiative, stressing that the international agencies he met with expressed their backing for efforts to achieve peace in the country.
Sudanese officials’ visits to international forums come amid government efforts to garner external support for peace and reconstruction initiatives, as humanitarian and economic challenges resulting from the war continue.
Sudan has been experiencing an armed conflict since April 2023, which has led to the deterioration of essential services, particularly in the health sector, prompting the government to intensify its contacts with international organizations to request technical and humanitarian support.
