Kadugli – Sudan Now | December 13, 2025
Military sources said that two helicopters belonging to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) landed on Saturday morning in the city of Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State, to transport seven wounded individuals and six bodies of victims of the shelling that targeted the United Nations mission headquarters in the city.
The sources added that the two aircraft were carrying medical teams and paramedics from Ghana, noting that the evacuation of the wounded and the bodies took place in the presence of the commander of the Bangladeshi forces, a senior Sudanese army commander, as well as officers from the UNISFA mission, before they were transferred from Kadugli to the Abyei area.
A United Nations facility in the city of Kadugli was targeted in an aerial attack by a drone, an incident that sparked official condemnations and prompted UN warnings over the safety of humanitarian workers, amid escalating military operations in South Kordofan and Blue Nile states in recent weeks.
The UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is deployed in the disputed Abyei region between Sudan and South Sudan under a mandate from the UN Security Council, with responsibilities that include protecting civilians and supporting stability. International agencies, including Reuters, have previously pointed to growing security risks facing UN missions in conflict zones across Sudan since the outbreak of war between the Sudanese army and the RSF in April 2023.
