Ad-Damazin – Sudan Now
Darfur Regional Governor and Chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A), Minni Arko Minnawi, stressed the importance of strengthening national cohesion and enhancing coordination among Sudan’s regions to address the security challenges facing the country. His remarks came during a visit to the Blue Nile Region, where he met with the regional leadership and the Security Committee.
Minnawi said Sudan is facing threats targeting its unity and stability, stressing the need to unify efforts to defend the country and thwart what he described as schemes aimed at dismantling the state. He added that the national cause represented by the forces engaged in the war against the RSF is a cause shared by all Sudanese, both inside and outside the country.
Minnawi was received in the city of Ad-Damazin by Blue Nile Region Governor Ahmed al-Omda Badi, along with members of the regional government and the Security Committee. The accompanying delegation included Lt. Gen. Juma Mohammed Hagar, head of the Joint Forces of the Armed Struggle Movements and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan Liberation Army, as well as several military and political leaders.
According to statements by Badi, the two sides held a series of joint meetings, including a session of the regional Security Committee, during which they reviewed security and humanitarian developments, particularly in border areas, and discussed measures aimed at securing the region and strengthening coordination between military and security agencies.
The visit comes at a time when the Blue Nile Region is witnessing sporadic security tensions along its eastern and southern borders, in addition to the continuation of military operations in several areas linked to the ongoing war in Sudan since April 2023.
During the visit, Minnawi emphasized the importance of maintaining good-neighborly relations with neighboring countries and strengthening regional cooperation in a way that serves security, stability, and peace in the region, noting that safeguarding Sudan’s unity and sovereignty represents a national priority at the current stage.
For his part, the Governor of Blue Nile Region described the visit as embodying a spirit of solidarity and coordination among Sudan’s regions, affirming that it had contributed to boosting the morale of the regular forces, joint forces, and mobilized fighters participating in safeguarding security and stability in the region.
Badi stressed the importance of continuing security and military coordination among the various relevant institutions, working to reinforce state authority and enhance stability in the region, noting that the current stage requires greater cooperation among state components to address security and humanitarian challenges.
The Joint Force of the Armed Struggle Movements, which includes several signatories of the Juba Peace Agreement, is in military operations alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces on several fronts, particularly in the Darfur and Kordofan regions, amid escalating clashes with the RSF in recent months.
