Cairo – Sudan Now | April 20, 2026
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and African Affairs, on developments in Sudan, stressing the need to intensify international efforts to bring an end to the war and halt the humanitarian suffering.
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency stated that Boulos conveyed the greetings of U.S. President Donald Trump to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who in turn asked that his greetings be passed on, expressing appreciation for the strategic relations between the two countries.
He added that the meeting addressed the Sudanese crisis, where both sides emphasized the importance of advancing efforts toward a settlement to end the conflict, as well as supporting the humanitarian response.
President El-sisi welcomed the international commitments announced during the Berlin Conference, amounting to approximately €1.5 billion, to support humanitarian needs in Sudan.
The Egyptian President reaffirmed his country’s commitment to Sudan’s unity and sovereignty, and its rejection of external interference, noting that Egypt is engaged within the Quad mechanism aimed at ending the war and launching a comprehensive political process.
These remarks come in the wake of the Berlin Conference on Sudan, which focused on strengthening the humanitarian response without achieving tangible political progress toward ending the conflict.
Since the outbreak of the war in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, regional and international actors have continued efforts to promote de-escalation tracks, amid stalled political initiatives and a deepening humanitarian crisis.
