Khartoum – Sudan Now | February 5, 2026
The Sudan Doctors Network announced that 22 people were killed, including the medical director of Al-Kuwik Military Hospital and three medical staff members, in addition to eight others who were injured, as a result of shelling it said was carried out by the RSF, targeting the hospital in South Kordofan State.
In a statement, the network condemned the targeting of health facilities and medical workers, describing the attack as a “war crime” and a violation of international humanitarian law and conventions that guarantee the protection of medical facilities and civilians.
It added that the attack is part of a series of assaults it said have struck the state, forcing a number of hospitals out of service, exacerbating the humanitarian situation and threatening residents’ ability to access healthcare.
The network held the RSF fully responsible for the attack, calling on the international community and UN organizations to take urgent action to stop attacks on health institutions.
There was no immediate comment from the RSF regarding the accusations.
Sudan has been witnessing an armed conflict between the army and the RSF since April 2023, marked by mutual accusations of targeting civilians and infrastructure, including medical facilities.
Attacks on health facilities are considered among the most serious violations in armed conflicts, as they lead to a reduction in medical services and deepen the humanitarian crisis, particularly in areas that already suffer from limited healthcare infrastructure, such as South Kordofan.
