Al-Nuhud – West Kordofan | Sudan Now – 21 December 2025
Local sources have accused the RSF militia of bringing in and housing foreign technicians، including Colombian nationals, inside Al-Nuhud Teaching Hospital in West Kordofan State, and using the facility as a command center for operating drone systems, exploiting the protected status of medical facilities as military cover and as a shield from airstrikes.
According to the sources, parts of the hospital have been converted into sites for drone operations and technical support, amid ongoing military activity in and around the city.
The sources said the hospital administration is unable to issue any official statements, as the area remains under the control of the RSF and is considered a security-free zone.
The sources added that this conduct falls within a recurring pattern of exploiting the protections afforded to hospitals under international humanitarian law, forcibly converting them into military sites, in a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit the use of medical facilities for combat purposes.
No comment had been issued by the RSF regarding these allegations at the time of publication.
International humanitarian law prohibits the targeting of medical facilities or their use for military purposes, and grants hospitals special protection as long as they are not used for hostile acts. International human rights organizations affirm that converting hospitals into military bases or using them as human shields may amount to war crimes.
These allegations come amid increasing reports of the RSF using drones to target neighborhoods and civilian facilities in several Sudanese states, resulting in civilian casualties and extensive damage to infrastructure, alongside UN warnings about escalating risks to both the population and the healthcare system.
