Khartoum – Sudan Now

Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman and army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has denied reports that consultations are taking place in Bahrain between Sudan and the United Arab Emirates, describing the claims as “completely false.”

Speaking during an Eid visit to Sudanese Armed Forces personnel, Burhan said reports of consultations or arrangements involving Bahrain “have no basis in reality,” while reiterating that the military would continue what it calls the “Battle of Dignity” until its objectives are achieved.

Burhan also praised the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied groups for their role in ongoing military operations, expressing confidence in what he described as victory through the determination of soldiers and the support of the Sudanese people.

His remarks came in response to a report published by Middle East Eye claiming that Bahrain was seeking to mediate between Sudan and the United Arab Emirates and that Burhan’s recent Gulf visit was linked to those efforts.

According to the report, Burhan had indicated a willingness to enter talks with the UAE if it ceased support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and respected Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Burhan rejected the account, insisting that no such consultations were taking place.

Relations between Khartoum and Abu Dhabi have deteriorated sharply since the outbreak of war in April 2023. Sudan has repeatedly accused the UAE of supporting the RSF with military and logistical assistance, allegations the UAE has consistently denied.

The dispute has expanded into diplomatic and legal arenas, with Sudan pursuing complaints before international bodies while continuing to press its accusations against the Gulf state.

The latest exchange comes amid ongoing regional and international efforts to end the conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, a war that has displaced millions and triggered what international organizations describe as one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
