EL GENEINA – Fighters from the Joint Force of the Armed Movements, backed by the Popular Resistance, clashed with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in West Darfur State on Saturday, according to a military source.
The source told Sudan Now that fighting began in the early hours of the day and alleged that the Joint Force and its allies inflicted heavy losses on the RSF, including the deaths of dozens of fighters. The claims could not be independently verified.
The source said military operations and clashes were continuing at the time of publication.
The reported fighting follows weeks of intensified military operations in West Darfur, where the Joint Force has advanced into the localities of Kulbus and Jebel Moon, while also pushing toward the Abu Gamra area in neighbouring North Darfur, according to military sources.
The Joint Force, made up of former Darfur rebel groups that signed the Juba Peace Agreement, has increasingly coordinated military operations with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) since the outbreak of the war against the RSF in April 2023.
Fighting has intensified across Darfur in recent months as both sides seek to expand territorial control, with the region remaining one of the main fronts of Sudan’s conflict.
The RSF had not commented on the reported clashes at the time of publication.
