KHARTOUM – A high-level delegation from the East African Standby Force (EASF) arrived in Khartoum early Tuesday for several days of talks aimed at strengthening cooperation and coordination with Sudanese authorities.

The delegation is headed by EASF Director Brig. Gen. Ronald Rwivanga and includes members of the organization’s Council of Elders and senior officials.

Sudan’s state news agency SUNA said the delegation was received at Khartoum International Airport by Maj. Gen. Abu Bakr Fagiri, director of international relations at the Ministry of Defence.

The delegation is expected to hold official meetings and bilateral discussions with Sudanese institutions during the visit, focusing on areas of joint cooperation and coordination.

The visit comes as Sudan seeks to deepen engagement with regional organizations while the country remains affected by the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, which began in April 2023.

EASF is a regional standby mechanism bringing together countries in eastern Africa to support peace and security efforts, including preparedness for regional peace-support operations.

According to SUNA, its current membership includes Sudan, Rwanda, Djibouti, Kenya, Burundi, Uganda, Ethiopia, Comoros and Somalia.

The visit also marks another high-level regional engagement in Khartoum as Sudanese authorities seek to restore diplomatic and institutional activity in the capital following years of conflict.
