Corrections Policy

Last updated:

Sudan Now is committed to accuracy and transparency in the news, reports and other editorial content we publish. Journalism sometimes requires information to be updated or corrected when new details emerge or when an error is found in a published story. This policy explains how we handle editorial errors, correction requests and updates after publication.

Our commitment to accuracy

Our editorial team checks information before publication, relies on reliable sources wherever possible, and attributes statements and allegations clearly to their sources. When new information or important clarifications become available, we may update published stories so that readers understand the news more accurately. Our wider standards are set out in our Editorial Policy.

What we correct

We review and correct significant errors that may affect a reader’s understanding of a story, including errors in:

  • names, titles and positions;
  • numbers and statistics;
  • dates and places;
  • quotations and statements;
  • the attribution of information to its source;
  • language or editing errors that affect the meaning;
  • any other inaccurate information about the context of a story or report.

Corrections, clarifications and updates

Corrections. When we confirm that a story contains an error, the editorial team reviews and amends it as quickly as possible. Where an error is significant — particularly where it affects the substance or understanding of the story — we tell readers what was changed, with a note in the article.

Clarifications. When a story is accurate but could be misunderstood, or lacks context that readers need, we may add a clarification explaining the point.

Updates. We may update stories after publication when new information emerges, official statements are issued, the situation on the ground changes, or additional details become available from reliable sources. An update does not necessarily mean the earlier version was wrong; it may add new information or improve the context. Updated articles show the date of the latest update.

Minor changes that do not affect the meaning of a story, such as spelling, grammar or formatting, may be made without a note.

Removing published content

We remove published content only in limited cases, such as a serious error, a clear legal violation, a breach of privacy, or information that, after editorial review, is no longer appropriate to keep online. In ordinary cases we prefer to correct or update a story rather than remove it, to keep our editorial record transparent.

How to request a correction

Readers and the people and organisations concerned can send correction requests or editorial comments to editor@sudannow.net or through our Contact page. To help us review your request quickly, please include:

  • the link to the published article;
  • the error or issue you are reporting;
  • the information you believe is correct;
  • any source or evidence that supports your request.

The editorial team reviews every request according to professional standards. We do not make any change before verifying that it is accurate.

Editorial independence

The Sudan Now editorial team reserves the right to assess correction and update requests according to its editorial and professional standards, in the interest of the reader’s right to accurate and clear information.
