Khartoum – Sudan Now

Darfur Governor and Democratic Bloc leader Minni Arko Minnawi said the Democratic Bloc has decided to accept an invitation from the Quintet mechanism, reaffirming its position that any political dialogue should be Sudanese-led, held inside Sudan, and include all parties without exclusion.

In a statement posted on his social media page, Minnawi said the bloc remains committed to its long-standing position that dialogue should address all national issues and involve all relevant stakeholders, contributing to a political process that originates from within Sudan and preserves the country’s sovereignty and independent decision-making.

At the same time, Minnawi said the Democratic Bloc rejects granting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) or the Tasis alliance any political privileges or gains, accusing the RSF of committing genocide and ethnic cleansing in areas including El Fasher, El Geneina, Zamzam camp and Wad Al-Noura.

He added that achieving peace in Sudan should not come at the expense of justice or the rights of victims, stressing that there can be no compromise on accountability or impunity for crimes and violations committed during the war.

Minnawi’s remarks come as regional and international efforts continue to seek a political solution to the conflict that has been ongoing in Sudan since April 2023, amid differing positions among political and military actors over the shape of a future political process and the conditions for participation.

He said the Democratic Bloc believes that any sustainable political settlement must be based on justice and redress for victims, alongside preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and stability.
