EL OBEID – One civilian was killed and more than 10 others were wounded in an attack on villages in West Kordofan that a local emergency group blamed on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Dar Hamar Emergency Room said RSF fighters attacked the Umm Gozain area and nearby villages west of Abu Sinoun Mountain on Thursday, looted the local market and opened fire on unarmed civilians.
The group said one person was killed and more than 10 others were injured in the attack.
Sudan Now could not independently verify the casualty figures or the circumstances of the attack. The RSF did not immediately comment.
The Dar Hamar Emergency Room condemned what it described as violations and attacks on civilians, holding the RSF responsible for the assault and calling for civilians to be protected from further violence.
The incident comes amid increasing reports of abuses against civilians in parts of West Kordofan, including killings, looting, arbitrary detention, property seizures and attacks on markets and villages.
West Kordofan has become increasingly vulnerable as Sudan’s war spreads across the wider Kordofan region. Fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF has disrupted roads, trade routes and local services, while civilians in rural areas face growing insecurity and limited access to food, medicine and humanitarian assistance.
Local groups say weakened security and justice systems have left many communities exposed to repeated attacks, with few mechanisms available to investigate violations or hold perpetrators accountable.
The latest attack adds to fears that continued RSF movements in rural West Kordofan could trigger further displacement and deepen the humanitarian crisis in areas already affected by shortages, insecurity and collapsing public services.
