El Obeid – Sudan Now
Drone attacks reportedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed several civilians and injured others in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, on Sunday, according to local sources and residents.
Sources said the attacks targeted residential neighborhoods, including the Employees’ District, as well as a fuel station and several fuel storage and distribution facilities across the city, causing civilian casualties and material damage.
Preliminary reports indicated that three members of the same family were killed in the Employees’ District. Local sources also reported additional casualties, although the total number of victims could not be independently verified as assessments were still ongoing.
Residents said the drones carried out multiple strikes during the morning hours, targeting different locations across the city, including facilities linked to fuel supplies, triggering panic among residents.
The attacks come as El Obeid faces growing challenges related to electricity, water and fuel supplies, raising concerns that further strikes on critical infrastructure could worsen humanitarian conditions for civilians.
El Obeid is a key economic and service center in the Kordofan region and has remained an important hub for trade and supply routes throughout the conflict. Damage to infrastructure and essential services is likely to have a direct impact on residents and surrounding communities.
The RSF did not immediately comment on the allegations.
The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF has continued since April 2023, triggering one of the world’s largest displacement crises and contributing to worsening humanitarian conditions across large parts of Sudan.
