UMM RUWABA – A drone attack blamed on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed 13 people and injured 22 others in Umm Ruwaba, North Kordofan, the Sudan Doctors Network reported.
In a statement, the medical group said the attack took place around midday, when the city was crowded with civilians, and targeted civilian facilities and private property.
The network condemned what it described as the deliberate targeting of civilian facilities and property, saying the attack failed to distinguish between military and civilian targets.
It said attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure violate international humanitarian law and rules prohibiting the targeting of civilians and civilian objects.
Sudan Now could not independently verify the casualty toll or the circumstances of the strike. The RSF did not immediately comment.
The attack comes amid a sharp escalation in drone warfare across Sudan, particularly in Kordofan, where cities and supply routes have repeatedly come under aerial attack during the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF.
Umm Ruwaba, a strategic town in North Kordofan, has been affected by shifting front lines, insecurity and repeated disruptions to civilian life since the war spread beyond Khartoum and Darfur into central and western Sudan.
UN investigators have warned that the expanding use of drones by Sudan’s warring parties has exposed civilians far from front lines, with attacks affecting markets, hospitals, schools, displacement sites and other civilian areas.
The Sudan Doctors Network called for an immediate end to attacks on cities, residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure, urging all parties to spare civilians from the consequences of military operations.
It also called on the international community to pressure the RSF leadership and hold it fully accountable for the attack, which the network described as the “Umm Ruwaba massacre.”
