El Obeid – Sudan Now | February 6, 2026
World Food Programme aid trucks were targeted in a drone attack in the Allah Kareem area of North Kordofan State while en route to El Obeid, according to field sources.
The sources accused the Rapid Support Forces of carrying out the attack, with no immediate comment from the forces on the allegations. The World Food Programme has not yet released an official statement detailing the extent of the damage or any potential losses.
Security escalation in the state
The attack comes amid reports of escalating security tensions in several parts of North Kordofan, including assaults on villages and towns, as well as incidents of looting targeting agricultural crops and private property in the rural areas of Al Rahad, according to activists.
Local reports also pointed to the continued siege of several areas, disrupting food and medical supplies, alongside reported cases of young men being abducted from villages surrounding El-Obeid, amid telecommunications outages in parts of the state.
Field sources also reported an intensified use of drones, raising concerns over potential impacts on the agricultural season and local livelihoods.
North Kordofan State serves as a vital corridor for relief operations heading to the Darfur region and western Sudan, making any attacks on aid convoys a direct threat to the flow of humanitarian assistance.
International organizations have repeatedly warned that disruptions to aid deliveries, coupled with deteriorating security, could worsen the country’s humanitarian and food crisis amid ongoing conflict since April 2023.
