Khartoum – Sudan Now

The SPLM-N led by Malik Agar, has confirmed its support for national, regional, and international initiatives aimed at ending the war and achieving lasting peace in Sudan. The movement also reiterated its commitment to working with various national forces to address the Sudanese crisis and build a state based on social justice and equal citizenship.

The SPLM-N said in a press statement that its leader, Malik Agar, addressed an informational meeting held via video conferencing, with the participation of Deputy Chairman Lt. Gen. Ahmed Al-Omda Badi, National Leadership Council member Youssef al-Hadi, and the party’s Secretary-General in Blue Nile Region, Sheikh Al-Dawood. The meeting discussed a range of national and organizational issues, as well as current political and humanitarian developments.

These positions come at a time when regional and international efforts are ongoing to advance the political process in Sudan, amid the continuation of the war and the worsening humanitarian situation, with millions of displaced persons and refugees inside and outside the country as a result of the conflict that has been ongoing since April 2023.

According to the statement, participants received a briefing on the situation of internally displaced persons and refugees and the challenges they face, in addition to a review of the current political landscape and efforts being made to advance the peace process and bring an end to the war.

The meeting also discussed the Addis Ababa conference organized by the Quad mechanism, with the participation of Sudanese political forces and alliances, reviewing the conference’s objectives, initial outcomes, and its role in opening channels of dialogue between various political actors in an effort to reach solutions to the Sudanese crisis.

The Sudanese political scene has recently witnessed increased momentum, with consultations launched by the Quad mechanism, which includes the African Union, the United Nations, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the League of Arab States, and the European Union, aiming to bridge differences between Sudanese parties and support prospects for a political settlement.

The SPLM-N stressed that achieving lasting peace requires addressing the root causes of the Sudanese crisis and building a state based on the principles of social justice, balanced development, and equal citizenship, in a way that meets the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security and stability.

The movement also renewed its solidarity with Sudanese internally displaced persons and refugees, calling for the provision of protection mechanisms and humanitarian support, and for addressing their conditions in a way that preserves their dignity and fundamental rights, amid the ongoing humanitarian challenges linked to the war across the country.
