The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) repelled what the military described as a major attack on the Amoura area in Blue Nile State by forces allied with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and a group led by Joseph Tuka, according to a statement issued by the army’s 4th Infantry Division.

Brigadier General Mohamed Adam Kouri, commander of the 13th Infantry Brigade, visited frontline positions following the fighting and received briefings on the battle, its outcome and subsequent clearance operations, the statement said.

The military reported that the attacking force used artillery, drones and an infantry unit estimated at battalion strength in an attempt to breach army defenses around Amoura, an area under the responsibility of the 13th Infantry Brigade in Kouri Sector.

According to the statement, government forces repelled the assault after intense fighting and forced the attackers to withdraw.

The army reported seizing weapons, ammunition and military equipment during the battle, in addition to shooting down three suicide drones and recovering their wreckage. Troops continued pursuit and search operations aimed at securing the area, it added.

Kouri praised the performance of officers and soldiers involved in the operation and ordered continued military operations against withdrawing forces.

The 4th Infantry Division reaffirmed its readiness to respond to security threats across the eastern sector and along areas under its control.

Blue Nile State has witnessed sustained clashes in recent months between the Sudanese Armed Forces and forces allied with the RSF, including the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, particularly in eastern and border areas of the region.

The fighting has displaced civilians and caused casualties, while the parties to the conflict continue to exchange accusations over responsibility for military escalation and attacks on populated areas. The Sudanese military has also sought to strengthen control over strategic positions along border regions as hostilities continue on multiple fronts.
