ADDIS ABABA – A delegation from Sudan’s Democratic Bloc held talks with the Quint Mechanism at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa to discuss efforts to end the war and advance an inclusive political process, Darfur Governor and Democratic Bloc leader Minni Arko Minnawi said.
According to Minnawi, the delegation stressed that alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people must remain the foremost priority, arguing that any political process should be based on national ownership, respect Sudan’s sovereignty and include all political forces without exclusion or externally imposed solutions.
He said the delegation emphasized that ending the conflict requires restoring state authority and sovereignty, addressing the humanitarian consequences of the war and ensuring that Sudanese citizens regain their security, rights and dignity.
Minnawi added that the discussions also covered accountability for violations committed during the conflict, including those attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). He said justice should be a central component of any peace process to ensure lasting stability and support the reconstruction of state institutions. Sudan Now could not independently verify the allegations.
The Democratic Bloc said it remains committed to supporting a Sudanese-led political dialogue aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace while preserving the country’s unity and sovereignty.
The Quint Mechanism is one of several regional and international initiatives engaged in efforts to facilitate dialogue among Sudanese stakeholders since the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF erupted in April 2023. Multiple mediation efforts have sought to secure a ceasefire and launch an inclusive political process, but no comprehensive settlement has yet been reached.
