Khartoum – Sudan Now | 3 February 2026
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) confirmed that 14 multi-purpose community centers in the Darfur and West Kordofan regions continue to provide protection services and safe support for families forced to flee conflict areas.
The UNHCR stated that more than 285,500 people benefited during 2025 from protection services, recreational activities, and aid provided through these centers, in collaboration with partner humanitarian organizations.
According to the data, around 49,000 people, the majority of whom were women, participated in protection-related awareness sessions conducted by UNHCR partners, while nearly 48,000 children benefited from safe learning and play spaces within these facilities.
The UNHCR noted that Taweel Community Center in North Darfur recorded more than 142,000 beneficiaries, including newly displaced people who fled from Al Fashir. The agency emphasized that these centers serve as vital access points for humanitarian services, in addition to being spaces for learning, psychosocial recovery, and the rebuilding of community ties.
The UNHCR also expressed its gratitude to its partners and supporters, including Italy and the European Union Humanitarian Aid, for their continued support, which has enabled the provision of these essential services
Since the outbreak of war in April 2023, Sudan has been witnessing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, as fighting between the army and the RSF has displaced millions of civilians within the country, with a high concentration of displacement in the Darfur and Kordofan regions, amid a severe lack of basic services.
