Khartoum – Sudan Now
Amnesty International called on authorities in the United Arab Emirates to immediately and unconditionally release Sudanese political activist Mohamed Farouk Salman, expressing concern over his detention conditions and reported health situation.
In a statement, Amnesty said UAE authorities arrested Salman at Dubai International Airport while he was preparing to leave the country before security forces allegedly took him to his residence, searched the property and confiscated electronic devices.
The organization said Salman’s detention came while he was recovering from major surgery, raising what it described as serious concerns about his health and safety.
According to Amnesty, UAE authorities said in April 2025 they were investigating Salman on allegations of “insulting the president.”
The rights group said the Sudanese activist is currently being held at Al-Sadr prison in Abu Dhabi and renewed its call for his release and for respect of his legal and human rights.
The case comes amid increasing scrutiny by international rights organizations over restrictions on political expression and detentions linked to online activity in several countries across the region.
