The French Embassy to Sudan announced that a meeting was held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, bringing together a number of ambassadors and international envoys concerned with the Sudanese file, as part of coordinated international efforts aimed at ending the war and supporting civilians affected by the ongoing conflict in the country.

The French Embassy said in a post on the “X” platform that the meeting included representatives from France, Germany, Italy, and Canada, alongside “ambassadors and envoys sharing similar positions on Sudan,” stressing the need to “intensify collective efforts to silence the guns and support the civilian population.”

This move comes amid growing international pressure to end the war that has been ongoing in Sudan since April 2023, a conflict that has triggered one of the world’s largest humanitarian and displacement crises, amid UN warnings over worsening humanitarian conditions and the expanding scale of famine and violations against civilians.

Recent weeks have witnessed intensified diplomatic efforts led by Western and regional actors to end the war in Sudan, alongside repeated calls for a ceasefire, the resumption of the political process, and the opening of safe humanitarian corridors to deliver aid to those affected.

The meeting also comes days after growing discussions within international institutions regarding the war in Sudan, including a draft resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives calling for an end to external support for the warring parties, as well as UN and African demands to hold those responsible for violations against civilians accountable.
