BARA – The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied forces took control of Hamrat Al-Wiz in Jabra Al-Sheikh locality in North Kordofan, in a new field advance in the region, military sources said.
The sources said the move was part of ongoing operations aimed at securing the area and consolidating army positions as fighting continues across North Kordofan.
The army, the Joint Force and other allied military formations circulated videos showing their forces deployed inside the town, as residents were seen cheering and chanting in support.
A military source said the army had launched a broad ground operation involving dozens of mobile units, with the aim of advancing toward Sudan’s western axis in Darfur and linking up with forces stationed there.
The source said the operation would continue according to the military plan until army-aligned forces connect with troops on the western front, but did not provide further details on the axes of advance or the size of the forces involved.
Sudan Now could not independently verify the battlefield developments, the circulated footage or the extent of army control in Hamrat Al-Wiz. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) did not immediately comment.
North Kordofan Front
North Kordofan has become one of the most active fronts in Sudan’s war, with both the army and the RSF seeking to control routes linking central Sudan, Kordofan and Darfur.
The latest advance follows weeks of intensified operations around Bara, Jabra Al-Sheikh and nearby areas, as army-aligned forces attempt to push westward and secure supply routes toward Darfur.
The region’s strategic roads have gained added importance as the conflict expands beyond traditional front lines, with control of towns and rural corridors shaping military movement, logistics and access to isolated areas.
Sudan’s war, which erupted in April 2023 between the SAF and the RSF, has spread across much of the country, drawing in allied armed groups and local forces while worsening humanitarian conditions in Kordofan, Darfur and other regions.
