KADUGLI – The Sudan Doctors Network said a mother and three of her children were killed on Saturday in artillery shelling on residential neighborhoods in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State, which it attributed to the SPLM-N Al-Hilu.
The network said preliminary information indicated that the shelling struck civilian areas inside the city, killing the four family members.
It accused forces of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu of carrying out the attack and called for an immediate halt to attacks affecting civilians and residential areas.
The group also urged the United Nations and human rights and humanitarian organizations to condemn and document the incident and press for accountability.
Sudan Now could not independently verify responsibility for the shelling, and there was no immediate comment from SPLM-N Al-Hilu.
The latest incident comes amid renewed military activity in South Kordofan, where Kadugli and surrounding areas have repeatedly experienced artillery fire and clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and SPLM-N Al-Hilu, causing civilian casualties and displacement.
In August 2023, the United Nations mission in Sudan expressed concern over fighting and shelling in populated areas of South Kordofan, including reports of civilian casualties and displacement following attacks on Kadugli attributed to SPLM-N Al-Hilu.
More recently, in August 2026, the Justice Committee reported that 27 civilians, including four children, were killed and others wounded in attacks it attributed to SPLM-N Al-Hilu in Al-Gardoud and Abu Hamama in South Kordofan. The group said the violence forced residents to flee toward Abu Hitan and Kadugli.
The Sudan Doctors Network called for greater protection of civilians in conflict areas, warning that continued attacks on residential communities were worsening already severe humanitarian and security conditions.
