Tawila – Sudan Now | April 22, 2026
Field reports issued by the Darfur Human Rights Network revealed that the Rapid Support Forces have imposed strict restrictions on the operations of humanitarian organizations in the “Tawila” camp in North Darfur State, including limiting the movement of field teams and preventing their access to neighboring camps.
According to the reports, the RSF issued directives requiring organizations to relocate to the city of El Fasher or coordinate their operations from there. However, aid agencies rejected this, noting that the city is not safe for humanitarian work under the ongoing siege imposed on it.
The network also documented incidents of detention involving humanitarian staff, including workers from the (WR) organization, whose mobile phones and satellite communication devices (“Starlink”) were confiscated before they were transferred to El Fasher. It also reported the detention of staff from the (MLM) organization for three days, during which they were interrogated before being released.
Humanitarian circles have warned that these measures are hindering the delivery of aid to thousands of displaced people in the “Tawila” camp and are exacerbating the deterioration of health and living conditions, amid a widening gap in basic needs.
Background:
Darfur is experiencing a complex humanitarian situation as a result of ongoing fighting and the growing number of displaced people, amid increasing difficulties faced by humanitarian organizations in reaching those affected.
International organizations warn that restrictions on humanitarian operations, including the targeting of aid workers and the confiscation of their equipment constitute a violation of international humanitarian law and heighten the risk of a collapse in the humanitarian response in conflict areas.
