KHARTOUM – The Sudan Doctors Network said 10 civilians, including five women from the same family, were killed after a vehicle was struck by a drone on the Export Road west of Omdurman while the passengers were traveling to attend a wedding.
In a statement, the network accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying out the attack, saying the vehicle caught fire after being hit and that everyone on board was killed.
The network described the attack as a serious violation of international humanitarian law, arguing that the use of what it said was a guided drone indicated the strike deliberately targeted a civilian vehicle rather than resulting from indiscriminate fire.
The reported attack comes as drone warfare has increasingly spread across Sudan, with both military and civilian infrastructure coming under attack in several parts of the country as the conflict continues.
Human rights organizations and the United Nations have repeatedly called on all parties to the conflict to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, warning that deliberate attacks on non-combatants may constitute violations of international humanitarian law.
The Sudan Doctors Network urged the United Nations and international organizations to increase pressure on the RSF leadership to halt what it described as the deliberate targeting of civilians.
The claims could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate response from the RSF.
