Military sources said Sudanese army forces stationed in Kurri, in Blue Nile, repelled what they described as a major attack launched by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North and allied Rapid Support Forces fighters on the Amora military garrison.
The sources said the clashes inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers and resulted in the destruction and seizure of military vehicles and equipment.
Videos circulated by Sudanese soldiers showed troops celebrating after the fighting, following what the army described as a successful defense of the military position.
The developments came less than 24 hours after the Sudanese army announced it had repelled another RSF attack in the Blue Nile axis near the Ethiopian border.
Fighting has intensified in parts of Blue Nile in recent weeks as clashes continue between the Sudanese army and allied RSF-SPLM-North forces along border routes leading toward Kurmuk and Qaisan.
The conflict is part of the wider war that erupted in Sudan in April 2023 and has since expanded across several regions, worsening humanitarian and security conditions nationwide.
