Dilling – Sudan Now | December 31, 2025
About 40 people, including both military personnel and civilians, were killed today in a drone attack that targeted a gathering in the city of Dilling, South Kordofan State, according to local sources.
Local sources told Sudan Now that a drone belonging to the RSF militia targeted a gathering of civilians and regular forces in the Faraql neighborhood of the city, resulting in a large number of casualties at the scene of the attack.
The sources added that the wounded were transferred to hospitals in critical medical condition, warning that the death toll is likely to rise in the coming hours.
Eyewitnesses said the strike hit a densely populated area, resulting in civilian casualties among those in the vicinity of the targeted site, in an attack described as a deliberate assault on civilian gatherings.
The incident sparked widespread anger and condemnation among residents of the state, who described the targeting of gatherings by drones as a “war crime” and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
South Kordofan State has witnessed sustained military escalation in recent weeks, amid clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces on one side and the RSF militia and its allies on the other, including the SPLM-N — al-Hilu faction on certain fronts.
Concerns over civilian safety have intensified amid a rise in aerial attacks and incidents of extrajudicial killings, as local and human rights groups call for an end to the violations and for those responsible to be held accountable.
