Cairo- Sudan Now / January 14, 2026
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaty discussed today with Mr. Massad Boulos, Senior Adviser to the U.S. President for Arab and African Affairs, bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States as well as regional issues, foremost among them developments in Sudan.
Abdelaty affirmed Egypt’s full support for Sudan’s unity and stability and the preservation of its national institutions, stressing the importance of intensifying international and regional efforts to reach a humanitarian truce and a comprehensive ceasefire, as a prelude to launching an inclusive political process. He also underscored the need to enhance the flow of humanitarian aid and strengthen coordination with the Sudanese government and relief organizations.
The meeting also addressed ongoing preparations for the fifth meeting of the consultative mechanism to boost peace efforts in Sudan, which Cairo will host with the participation of the U.S. President’s adviser, as part of coordinated efforts among relevant parties to advance the settlement process.
The Egyptian foreign minister stressed that his country’s support for the Sudanese people includes the continued provision of humanitarian and relief assistance, reaffirming Cairo’s commitment to maintaining its role in supporting stability and peace in Sudan, in coordination with regional and international partners.
Sudan has been gripped by an ongoing war since April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF militia, which has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement and flight of millions, according to UN estimates. The Sudan crisis is considered one of the world’s most severe humanitarian emergencies, amid the collapse of basic services and a widening food insecurity crisis.
Egypt plays a pivotal role in regional efforts aimed at containing the Sudanese crisis, while the United States, in cooperation with its partners is seeking to push for a ceasefire and create conditions conducive to a political process leading to a comprehensive settlement that ensures Sudan’s unity and stability.
