Kadugli – Sudan Now | January 19, 2026
The Sudan Doctors Network has warned of a severe collapse in the healthcare situation in South Kordofan state, reporting that around 50% of medical facilities in the city of Kadugli are out of service. This comes as a result of the ongoing siege for more than two years, escalating military operations and shelling, as well as a severe shortage of supplies and medical staff.
The network stated that the city of Kadugli has five government hospitals and ten health centers; however, these facilities are currently operating at no more than half their capacity, while many have completely stopped functioning due to the war, the siege, and shortages of medicines, blood bags, and essential medical supplies.
It clarified that, among the ten government health centers, only four are currently operating: the Model Center (Health Insurance), Hay Al-Masane’ Center, Al-Samma East Health Center, and Hagar Al-Mak Health Center, while the other six centers have ceased operations. The network also pointed out that most private health centers are out of service, with only five out of nine currently functioning due to the deteriorating security situation.
The Sudan Doctors Network condemned the ongoing shelling, military operations, and siege, stressing that restrictions on the entry of medicines, equipment, and medical personnel have caused severe shortages of life-saving supplies, such as gauze, cotton, intravenous fluids, and blood bags, limiting the ability of the few operational facilities to provide necessary medical care.
The network called on the international community, humanitarian organizations, and UN agencies to urgently intervene to lift the siege on the city of Kadugli and South Kordofan state, to open safe humanitarian corridors, and to immediately provide medical supplies and personnel.
It warned of an imminent humanitarian disaster, as tens of thousands of civilians rely on these facilities, malnutrition is rising among children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers, and the work of international organizations is being hindered, with some having withdrawn due to attacks on civilian and humanitarian facilities.
South Kordofan state has been under a long-standing siege since the outbreak of armed conflict in Sudan in April 2023, amid repeated clashes and shelling that have hit civilian areas, leading to a severe deterioration of essential services, particularly the healthcare sector. Local and UN reports warn that the continued fighting and the lack of humanitarian corridors threaten the lives of thousands of civilians and undermine the ability of the fragile health system to meet growing needs
