Damazin – Sudan Now

The Sudanese Armed Forces said they had repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Al-Baraka area of Blue Nile State, claiming to have inflicted casualties and destroyed military equipment during the clashes.

Major Ali Awad Ali said in a statement published by the Sudanese military that army forces carried out an ambush against an RSF force on the outskirts of Al-Baraka, south of the Blue Nile region, resulting in the destruction of several combat vehicles and the seizure of others.

Colonel Abadi Al-Tahir, commander of the “Al-Naba Al-Yaqeen” military force, said the 4th Infantry Division and supporting units were fully prepared to confront the attack. He added that the operation was executed according to a pre-arranged military plan and concluded within a short period.

According to Al-Tahir, the clashes resulted in what he described as significant losses among the attacking force, in addition to the destruction and capture of several military vehicles.

Al-Baraka is located in the southern part of Blue Nile State near the border town of Kurmuk. The area has witnessed repeated military confrontations in recent months as Sudanese army forces seek to secure border regions and strategic routes in the state.

The Sudanese military announced in May that it had regained control of Al-Baraka following operations targeting RSF forces and allied groups in the area, describing the move as part of efforts to strengthen security along the eastern borders of the Blue Nile region.

The latest fighting comes as military operations continue across several fronts in Sudan, with the army seeking to consolidate control over strategic areas in Blue Nile, Kordofan and Darfur.

The RSF did not immediately comment on the army’s account of the clashes or the reported casualties.
