KUTUM – Several tribal and military figures linked to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were killed during violent incidents in the Ghorra Al-Zawiya area of North Darfur, amid conflicting accounts over the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Local sources said those killed included Maj. Gen. Tahir Al-Nour Al-Jadi, commander of the North Kutum axis, Brig. Gen. Al-Nour Saeed, an intelligence commander, and tribal leaders Ahmed Bakhit, Al-Zain Al-Nour Juma, Al-Doum Al-Nadif, and Abdallah Jad Al-Rab. The sources said Al-Jadi also served as a member of Ghorra Al-Zawiya’s customary court and headed its security force.
Another account circulating locally said the violence began as a tribal dispute that escalated into armed clashes before RSF members intervened. According to that account, drone strikes later targeted the customary court headquarters, resulting in multiple casualties, although the source of the drones remains unknown.
Sudan Now could not independently verify either account, and neither the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) nor the RSF had issued an official statement on the incident at the time of publication.
Ghorra Al-Zawiya, located northwest of Kutum in North Darfur, has witnessed recurring security tensions as tribal disputes increasingly intersect with the broader conflict. The area has remained under RSF influence since the outbreak of the war in April 2023, making independent verification of developments particularly difficult.
The incident comes amid continued fighting across North Darfur, where military operations involving the SAF, the Joint Force and the RSF have intensified in recent months, alongside growing reports of insecurity, displacement and competing narratives over battlefield developments.
