EL OBEID – Several students were injured on Saturday after shrapnel from Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drones struck a school in El Obeid following an attack on several neighborhoods in the city, while a number of students remain unaccounted for amid fear and confusion.
According to local sources, RSF drones targeted western neighborhoods of El Obeid, with fragments from the projectiles falling inside a school compound. Several students were injured and taken to hospital for treatment, while authorities continued searching for students whose whereabouts remained unknown after panic spread during the attack.
The latest attack follows a series of reported RSF drone strikes on El Obeid in recent weeks that have hit civilian infrastructure, including power facilities, fuel stations and residential areas, causing civilian casualties and disrupting essential services.
The incident also comes days after repeated international warnings against any escalation of military operations targeting El Obeid. The United Nations and several Western countries have urged the RSF to avoid repeating the El Fasher scenario, warning that a large-scale assault on the city could place hundreds of thousands of civilians at risk and deepen the humanitarian crisis in North Kordofan State.
