Tripoli – Sudan Now

The Libyan Ministry of Interior said it had continued operations to return displaced Sudanese nationals to Sudan as part of what it described as humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

In a statement, the ministry said a group of Sudanese nationals had been repatriated through Mitiga International Airport after completing the necessary procedures and coordination with the Sudanese embassy.

The ministry said the operation was carried out in response to a request from the Sudanese government and the willingness of some displaced Sudanese to return home, adding that a special committee had been formed to supervise the process in line with legal procedures.

Libya has hosted increasing numbers of Sudanese fleeing the conflict that erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

Regional efforts related to displacement, voluntary returns and civilian evacuations have intensified as the war continues to drive large-scale population movements across neighboring countries.

Sudanese refugees and displaced people in several transit countries continue to face challenges related to residency, humanitarian assistance and employment opportunities amid the prolonged conflict and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
