EL OBEID – The Sudanese army’s Fifth Infantry Division urged residents in parts of Kordofan affected by military operations to avoid Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions and gathering sites, as fighting intensifies across several fronts in the region.
The division’s Special Operations Forces said in a statement that large parts of Kordofan were facing a complex military situation as operations by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied forces continued against the RSF.
It urged residents of villages, towns and rural areas where RSF fighters are present to stay away from their positions and gathering sites, and to avoid areas of active fighting.
The force also called on residents to remain indoors unless necessary and to avoid approaching fighters or military operation zones until surrounding areas have been fully secured.
The statement said the SAF and allied forces had made gains across several fronts in Kordofan, adding that operations would continue to retake areas held by the RSF.
The warning comes as fighting intensifies across North, West and South Kordofan, where the army and allied formations have stepped up operations against RSF positions along key routes linking central Sudan to Darfur.
On Sunday, the SAF, the Joint Force and other allied formations said they had retaken Hamrat Al-Wiz in Jabra Al-Sheikh locality in North Kordofan from the RSF, marking another advance in ongoing military operations in the region.
Kordofan has become one of the most active fronts in Sudan’s war, with both sides seeking to control strategic towns, rural corridors and supply routes connecting Darfur, central Sudan and areas further south.
Sudan’s war between the SAF and RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has increasingly spread across Kordofan, worsening displacement, disrupting markets and limiting humanitarian access to civilians trapped near areas of fighting.
