PARIS – Sudan’s Finance Minister and Chairman of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), Gibril Ibrahim, said ending Sudan’s conflict requires a firm international response to what he described as external interference fueling the war.
According to a statement issued by Ibrahim, he made the remarks during a meeting in Paris with Christophe Marion, chairman of the France–Sudan Friendship Group and a member of the French Parliament, where the two discussed the latest political and security developments in Sudan and ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Khartoum and Paris.
Ibrahim said the talks focused on regional and international efforts to restore peace and security in Sudan, arguing that resolving the crisis requires what he described as a “responsible and firm” international position against external interference.
He also called for international support to designate the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a terrorist organization and to condemn what he described as violations and crimes committed against civilians, saying such measures would help restore security while preserving Sudan’s unity and sovereignty.
According to the statement, Christophe Marion stressed the importance of reaching an urgent and comprehensive peace agreement that safeguards Sudan’s unity and state institutions. He also welcomed the Sudanese government’s initiative to launch a Sudanese-led national dialogue, describing it as a step toward a sustainable political solution.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination and strengthening cooperation between Sudan and France in areas of mutual interest while supporting efforts to achieve peace and stability.
The meeting comes as diplomatic efforts to end the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, continue alongside growing international concern over the humanitarian crisis. Sudan has repeatedly accused foreign actors of supporting the RSF, allegations those countries have denied.
