AD-DAMAZIN – The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) said its 4th Infantry Division and allied forces destroyed 10 RSF combat vehicles, seized two others and shot down two drones during a military operation south of Al-Keili in the Blue Nile region on Friday.
In a statement issued by its media office, the 4th Infantry Division said the operation was based on intelligence and targeted positions of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied forces in the area.
The division said the operation inflicted heavy losses in personnel and equipment and weakened the attacking force’s combat capabilities.
The claims could not be independently verified. The RSF did not immediately comment.
Kurmuk Authorities Report Failed Advance
In a separate statement, authorities in Kurmuk locality said RSF forces had attempted to advance toward Al-Keili, northeast of Kurmuk, but were repelled by the SAF and allied forces.
Kurmuk government media said the attacking force included RSF fighters and forces allied with Joseph Toka, adding that some fighters withdrew toward the Ethiopian border.
Sudan Now could not independently verify the composition of the attacking force or the direction of the reported withdrawal.
Fighting Around Al-Keili
The latest statement followed reports earlier on Friday of intense fighting around Al-Keili after what military sources described as an RSF ground attack.
Those sources said SAF units engaged the attacking force around the area, while the 4th Infantry Division later described its action as a preemptive military operation targeting the force south of Al-Keili.
Al-Keili is located in the Blue Nile region near the Ethiopian border and has become a flashpoint in recent fighting involving the army, the RSF and allied forces.
The escalation comes amid broader military activity in Blue Nile, including recent drone incidents and attacks around Damazin and other areas in the region.
