ANKARA – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed his country’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity during talks with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem Ahmed Ibrahim in Ankara on Tuesday, pledging continued Turkish backing for efforts to achieve peace, stability and humanitarian relief.
The meeting came as Sudan seeks to strengthen regional and international partnerships while pursuing reconstruction efforts after more than three years of conflict. The two ministers discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, mining, agriculture, education, culture and capacity building.
During the talks, Ibrahim briefed Fidan on the latest developments in Sudan, outlining the government’s efforts to restore security, re-establish state institutions and create conditions for post-war recovery and reconstruction. He also expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s humanitarian assistance and its continued support for Sudan’s national institutions.
Türkiye has maintained diplomatic engagement with Sudan throughout the conflict while continuing humanitarian assistance. Ankara has repeatedly voiced support for Sudan’s territorial integrity and has sought to preserve its longstanding political and economic ties with Khartoum.
The ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, as well as the humanitarian and security challenges posed by armed conflicts, the spread of weapons and armed groups. They stressed the importance of dialogue and regional coordination to address shared challenges.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding between Türkiye’s Diplomacy Academy and Sudan’s Diplomatic Institute to strengthen cooperation in diplomatic training, professional development and the exchange of expertise.
The ministers agreed to continue consultations on bilateral, regional and international issues while working to further deepen the strategic partnership between Sudan and Türkiye.
