KHARTOUM – Sudan’s 4th Infantry Division said its forces and allied units carried out an ambush against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied fighters in El-Magha, Blue Nile region, destroying several vehicles and taking control of the area.
The division said the operation followed surveillance of the targeted force’s movements before it was drawn into the ambush zone.
It said the attack inflicted casualties and destroyed a number of combat vehicles and military equipment, adding that its forces subsequently secured the site.
Sudan Now could not independently verify the details of the ambush, the reported casualties or the number of vehicles destroyed. The RSF did not immediately comment.
The development comes amid an escalation in fighting across Blue Nile and North Kordofan, where the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied formations have reported a series of recent battlefield gains.
In Blue Nile, the 4th Infantry Division said earlier that its forces destroyed 10 RSF combat vehicles, seized two others and shot down two drones during an operation south of Al-Keili.
Authorities in Kurmuk also said an RSF-led force attempted to advance toward Al-Keili before being repelled by the army and allied units.
In North Kordofan, the SAF has reported recapturing several areas northwest and west of El Obeid, alongside the destruction and seizure of RSF vehicles and the killing or capture of fighters.
The recent operations reflect a broader intensification of ground fighting across western and southeastern Sudan, as both sides seek control of strategic routes and positions linking Kordofan, Darfur and Blue Nile.
