SODARI – The Sudan Doctors Network accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of looting and destroying Sodari Rural Hospital in North Kordofan, saying the attack left a facility that served more than 50,000 families unable to provide essential health services.

The network said the hospital’s infrastructure, medical equipment and supplies were looted or damaged, leaving the facility in ruins at a time when residents of the area are facing severe humanitarian and health needs.

According to the group, Sodari Rural Hospital had provided medical services to more than 50,000 families before the war.

The reported destruction comes as Sodari and surrounding areas have experienced fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF.

The army recently announced that it had retaken Sodari following military operations around the town. The full extent of damage to civilian infrastructure in the area remains unclear.

The Sudan Doctors Network said attacks and looting targeting health facilities directly undermine civilians’ right to medical care and further weaken Sudan’s already strained health system.

It said the destruction of medical equipment reduces the remaining capacity of health institutions to provide services to civilians in conflict-affected areas.

The network also described attacks on medical facilities and health workers as violations of international rules protecting health care during armed conflict.

It called on international humanitarian and human rights organizations to condemn the reported attack and press for stronger protection of hospitals and other medical facilities in areas affected by fighting.

The group also urged efforts to rehabilitate damaged health facilities and called for accountability for those responsible for attacks and looting.

The Sudan Doctors Network said civilians must be guaranteed safe and unhindered access to health services despite the continuing conflict.

Sudan Now could not independently verify the extent of the damage, the circumstances surrounding the reported looting or responsibility for it. The RSF did not immediately comment on the allegations.
