KHARTOUM – Eleven civilians were killed, five others abducted and a local market burned after Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters attacked the villages of Gorbra and Aro in Ambro locality, North Darfur, according to Sudan Now’s field reporting and local sources.
The attacks, which took place on Thursday and Friday, targeted civilian communities with no known military presence, according to local residents and material verified by Sudan Now.
The assault completely destroyed the market in Gorbra and was accompanied by widespread looting of homes, civilian property and livestock, depriving many families of their main source of livelihood.
Local sources said the attack triggered a new wave of displacement, with thousands of residents fleeing the area amid growing fears of further violence and the absence of humanitarian assistance.
The violence follows similar attacks reported in Orshi last month, raising concerns over deteriorating security conditions in northern parts of West Darfur and neighboring North Darfur.
North Darfur has witnessed escalating violence in recent months as fighting continues between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), allied armed groups and the RSF. The conflict has displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians and severely restricted humanitarian access across large parts of the region.
There was no immediate response from the RSF to the reported attack.
