Khartoum – Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met on Wednesday with South Sudan’s Director General of the Internal Security Bureau, General Akec Tong Aleu, to discuss bilateral relations and security cooperation.

 

The meeting, which was also attended by Sudan’s Director General of the General Intelligence Service, General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, focused on strengthening ties between the two neighboring countries and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to Sudan’s state news agency SUNA.

 

The two sides discussed ways to enhance joint security coordination and strengthen cooperation in securing the shared border to address ongoing security challenges and promote long-term stability.

 

The talks come as Sudan and South Sudan continue to face cross-border security concerns, including population movements, armed group activity and the impact of Sudan’s conflict on border communities and regional stability.

 

During the meeting, Akec Tong Aleu conveyed greetings from South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to al-Burhan, expressing wishes for peace, stability and prosperity in Sudan.

 

Sudan and South Sudan maintain close security and political contacts despite periodic tensions, with both governments continuing coordination on border security and regional issues while seeking to preserve stability along their shared frontier.
