BANGKOK – Sudan has called for greater transparency in the management of third-party financing for development projects and discussed expanding cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group.

A Sudanese delegation led by Finance Minister Gibril Ibrahim held talks with World Bank Executive Director Zarau Wendelin Kibwe, who represents the constituency that includes Sudan, on the sidelines of the 2026 annual meetings of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund.

Sudan’s Finance Ministry said the discussions focused on improving the implementation of projects financed by third parties and strengthening transparency over how funds allocated to those projects are managed.

The Sudanese delegation called for clearer and more comprehensive information on the amounts allocated to individual projects, disbursement mechanisms, management procedures and the bank accounts through which project funds are handled.

Officials said greater transparency would strengthen oversight, improve the efficient use of resources and help ensure that financing reaches its intended purposes.

The discussions come as Sudan faces extensive reconstruction and development needs after more than three years of war, which has damaged infrastructure, disrupted economic activity and weakened public services across large parts of the country.

The meeting also explored opportunities for Sudan to make greater use of services and initiatives offered by the IFC, which focuses on private-sector development and investment.

The two sides agreed to begin a dialogue to identify possible areas of cooperation and assess opportunities for IFC engagement in Sudan.

Sudan said greater involvement by the institution could help support private-sector participation in economic activity and broaden investment opportunities as the country seeks to rebuild productive sectors.

The discussions did not include details on specific IFC investments, financing commitments or a timetable for future projects.
