New York – Sudan Now | Monday, 29 December 2025
The United Nations and its partners launched a global humanitarian appeal today, Monday, as part of “the Global Humanitarian Overview 2026 report”, highlighting the unprecedented humanitarian disaster in Sudan, which currently represents the largest displacement crisis in the world.
The report stated that Sudan needs $2.9 billion to provide life-saving assistance to around 20 million people trapped inside the country amid ongoing war and deteriorating security, economic, and public service conditions. It also highlighted the need for an additional $2 billion to support approximately 7 million Sudanese who have been forced to flee abroad.
The appeal comes at a time when humanitarian work is facing sharp funding cuts, alongside a record number of deadly attacks on aid workers, further complicating the humanitarian response in Sudan.
United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator Thomas Fletcher stated that the appeal aims to direct international efforts toward saving lives, stressing that the urgent priority is to protect civilians and provide essential needs in the most conflict-affected areas.
Sudan is among the top-priority countries in the 2026 humanitarian appeal, due to the widespread displacement, collapse of health and food services, and the worsening plight of millions of civilians, particularly women and children, amid ongoing fighting and stalled political solutions.
