Khartoum – Sudan Now | March 10, 2026
The Sudanese government has called on the international community to respond to what it described as “strong calls” to designate the RSF as a terrorist organization, citing what it said were documented crimes and violations committed during the ongoing war in the country.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued Tuesday that the demand comes in light of what the government described as “serious violations of international humanitarian law, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.”
The statement came in response to a decision by the United States to designate the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan as a terrorist organization, with Khartoum reiterating its “principled and firm” stance condemning all forms of terrorism and violent extremism.
The statement added that any groups that violate international humanitarian law or commit acts of terrorism and crimes against civilians should be designated as terrorist organizations, noting that the RSF are responsible -according to the statement- for “proven crimes and documented violations” during the conflict.
The Sudanese government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country’s security and stability and protecting the lives of its citizens, stressing that it will take the necessary measures in accordance with national law and in line with Sudan’s international obligations in combating terrorism.
The Sudanese government’s statement came after the United States announced on March 9, 2026, that it had designated the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) entity, while also declaring its intention to formally add the group to the Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) list effective March 16.
The U.S. Department of State said the decision is based on allegations that individuals linked to the group participated in acts of violence during the ongoing war in Sudan, as well as the group’s connection to the “Al-Bara’ ibn Malik” battalion involved in the conflict, which Washington had previously listed as a terrorist organization in September 2025.
The Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF have been engaged in a war since April 2023, resulting in a large-scale humanitarian crisis amid mutual accusations of committing violations against civilians.
