New York – Sudan Now | 30 March 2026
The United Nations warned of escalating attacks on civilians in Sudan, noting that casualties including deaths and injuries, were reported in South and West Kordofan states in recent days.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that seven people were killed and dozens injured in an airstrike targeting a funeral gathering in the village of “Bayam Kasha” in the Nuba Mountains area of West Kordofan state.
The office added that field reports indicated drone attacks in the city of Dilling in South Kordofan state, which resulted in fatalities, as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate rapidly.
It noted that continued fighting and repeated strikes have disrupted vital supply routes in the Kordofan region, adding that the main roads linking El Obeid with Dilling and Kadugli have become unsafe, hindering the delivery of humanitarian and commercial supplies.
In the same context, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported that five children were killed and three others injured in Dilling, calling for an end to the violence and for children to be protected at all times.
The agency stressed the need for all parties to comply with international humanitarian law and to protect civilians -particularly children- from the consequences of the conflict.
The Kordofan states, including areas of the Nuba Mountains, have witnessed an escalation in violence in recent months, with repeated attacks on residential areas and civilian casualties, amid UN warnings of a worsening humanitarian crisis.
Since the outbreak of war in Sudan in April 2023, UN agencies have warned of the impact of attacks on infrastructure and vital roads, which has disrupted the delivery of aid and worsened living conditions across large parts of the country.
